k's toon guide

Editors Note: This guide is most appropriate for those who draw pen and ink style cartoons like k draws.

Editor: If you don't know much about scanning images and manipulating them on the computer, than do this instead: scan as grayscale or Black and White Photo. Do NOT scan as a black and white document. Scan at 100 DPI or more. It will look something like this. Save the resulting image as a JPG file and send it in.

Editor: If you do know how to manipulate images on the computer, then try this: Make sure your image is grayscale. Use the Auto-Levels command to reduce the light-gray background. Increase the contrast if that helps. Size down to 500 pixels wide. Save as a GIF with a color depth of 4 colors and without pixel dithering. You may have to manually adjust the color palette so that the brightest color is pure white and the darkest color is pure black (use "Save for web" to get these options). Name your file with your name, a hyphen, and a descriptive name: k-standup.gif is a good example. We get a ton of files named edodo231.gif or toon3.gif every month, it saves a step if they come in with good names.
